Caution and benefits of raw dog food

by Shadow,s Mom

I switched to raw dog food for my older dog when he was diagnosed with degenerative joint disease. This was after he had ACL surgery on both his back legs. He needed to lose weight and I felt some of his problem had to do with his diet of dry dog food.

There was also a recall on his dogfood . He has improved a lot over the last 5 years. I am sure he would not be alive if it was not for his diet changes.

My only caution is I had an all natural vet helping me. She found there were some deficiencies and we made changes . Plus I keep up to date on the latest studies as this is still a pretty new field and new information is always coming in.

I would definitely advocate this diet but if you do not have a good natural vet, read as many different books as you can before you start. Also have blood work done every year to check for problems.
