Dogs Aren't Dangerous... People Are

by Kathryn
(Cleveland, OH)

Dogs have been bred for centuries to work and live alongside men. No dog is, by its very nature, a violent dangerous animal (except the rare exceptions, which occur in humanity as well). The problem is negligent owners who don't train their dogs, or who treat them violently or poorly and MAKE the dog bad.

Pit bulls unfortunately tend to attract the wrong type of owner because of their reputation. While there are many of us good, loving families who treat our precious bull puppies like members of the family, there are those who like their dogs to act vicious. Put a lab or a retriever in those same hands, and you'll get a vicious dog.

It's not a breed-specific problem. It's a problem with owners. People need to stop blaming pit bulls and spend time with those of us who live with pit bulls, who stick our hands in their food dish while they're eating without getting bit, who let their dogs sleep with them at night, who don't chain them in the yard and ignore them.
