Training her to behave around other dogs...

My pit / boxer will not listen when around other dogs it's like she completely loses her mind. Is there a way to get control of this?

Hi Val

It's a popular question around here. Since you don't mention that she gets aggressive, I'm assuming the problem is that she just stops listening to you in the presence of other dogs.

Ideally, we'd like our dogs to pay attention to us no matter what else is going on. You might find Bonding with Your Dog by Vicky Schade helpful along these lines.

If the problem is primarily limited to first time introductions, this article on socializing your pit bull with other dogs offers some pointers too.

Feel free to post back here if you have more questions about this. You have a lovely girl. Give her a hug from me.
